51. Gold Gallery - Robes

The costume of King Felix III 1996, John Schley Rutherford, draws upon both Moorish and Spanish influences of Morocco in the 18th century. The coat features a fitted torso flared in vintage skirt, standing rolled collar, and double sleeves. The king’s eighteen foot train of Spanish blue velvet is cut in a Moorish star shape, and the center motif for the base is a Spanish coat of arms, patterned after the entrance to the Spanish Plaza, which is on Government Street across from the Museum. Notice the stones on his crown mirror those on his costume.
